Bless the Girls: From Arkansas to Dominican Republic
The Arkansas First Jurisdiction World Missions Department, under the leadership of Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop Jewel R. Withers, Jr.; Supervisor, Mother Hazel B. DeLoney; and World Missions Department President, Missionary April D. Agnew, is currently on their first jurisdictional mission trip! The 2024 Dominican Republic Mission Team journeyed to San Pedro de Marcoris, Dominican Republic, Monday, June 10, 2024, and will return to the United States Saturday, June 15, 2024.
Day one of the mission, the Arkansas First Jurisdiction Mission team, blessed the girls of the Church of God in Christ Journey Center with much needed hygiene products, requested hair products, and underwear. The girls engaged in Vacation Bible School where they learned about the fruit of the spirit, and enjoyed craft activities and games that were related to the fruit of the spirit lessons. The girls were also gifted several jewelry making kits to teach them entrepreneurial skills.
Day two of the mission, the Arkansas First Jurisdiction Mission team, conducted a medical clinic and had VBS activities with the children of the community at the 8th Church of God in Christ (8va Iglesia de Dios en Cristo, Fuente de Bendición) in the Esperanza Community. This community is a very poor Haitian Refugee community in need of help and Christ. The team shared medical supplies, pounds of rice and beans for each family, and hygiene kits for all children and adults. Elder Samuel Brazell, Missionary April Agnew, Mother Mary Braxton, Missionary Gracie Burton, and Aspiring Missionary Frances Young conducted a one-night revival, where Elder Brazell preached a soul-stirring message, “The God of Hope (Romans 15:12-13).
Day three of the mission, the Arkansas First Jurisdiction Mission team, journeyed to the Monte Cristo Nursing Home at the 1st Baptist Church Christ The Only Hope (1ra Iglesia Bautista Cristo La Única Esperanza). The team was able to sing with, pray for, and feed the elderly residents. The staff nurse was overjoyed to receive much needed medical supplies. The nurse and the Pastor said that God sent our team to provide items, such as gloves and medicine, that they needed and did not have access to at the moment. The team also provided hygiene products and healthy snacks for the residents at the facility. In addition to the nursing home donations, the team was able to purchase much needed brand new chairs, a trash can, a donation for repairs to the refrigerator, and other necessities for the Church Of God In Christ Journey Center Dominican Republic.
The last day of the of the mission, the Arkansas First Jurisdiction Mission team, will provide several of the girls at the Journey Center with a day in the capital city, Santo Domingo, and relaxation at the beach. A few of the girls have never seen the capital city, nor gone to the beach in their country. The team is excited to bring a bit of joy to their hearts for the day.
